Student Expectations and Computer Contract

Below are policies that will regulate our use of the Internet and computers. These rules have been designed to keep our computers and classroom functioning at the highest standard. In order to have access to the Internet and computers in the classroom, please read the following information and sign below.
A special note about cell phones, headphones, and other electronic devices while at Canarelli Middle School:
General Consequences:
1st offense: Warning and a phone call to parents / guardian.
2nd offense: Detention or Temporary Loss of Privilege
3rd offense: Parent conference and Temporary Loss of Privilege
4th offense: Referral to the Administration / Assistant Principal
These policies and procedures must be adhered to, and any violations may result in the aforementioned consequences, loss of computer access for the remainder of the quarter, or placement in another elective depending on the severity of the circumstance.
- Students are not permitted to bring food or drinks near any of the computers.
- The classroom computers and applications are to be used for educational purposes. Programs on the classroom computers are only permitted by prior review from the teacher. Games, social media (e.g. Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, WhatsApp, Kik, Discord), Internet Games, YouTube, chat rooms, Instant Messengers, Fantasy Football/Basketball, etc., are NOT permitted.
- Bypassing the school’s firewall is not permitted.
- Students may not install software onto the computers.
- Students hacking, altering unauthorized files, or using the network in any way other than that intended is not acceptable.
- Students must not move any equipment or cables. Keyboards and mice must not be swapped between machines.
- Proper handling of the laptops and robots, as modeled by the teacher, will be expected.
- NEVER give a password to other students.
- Students should not change their desktop, screensaver, etc.
- Students should save their work using their online application accounts, or as indicated by the instructor.
- Check your workstation everyday when you enter and leave the classroom. Inform your teacher if anything is wrong. The student is responsible for his/her own workstation.
A special note about cell phones, headphones, and other electronic devices while at Canarelli Middle School:
- No cell phones or headphones are allowed during class or while passing. Cell phones should be turned to silent mode and stored.
- Cell phones may be accessed before school, during lunch, and after the final class bell has sounded.
- Students observed wearing headphones or accessing their cell phones may have them confiscated by the Student Success team.

- Note: Severe violations of technology usage at this school (as determined by Canarelli Middle School's Administration) may result in removal of ALL computer privileges through the end of a quarter. Alternative unplugged computer science assignments are not congruous to the course activities, projects, and assignments, and may result in an unsatisfactory student evaluation for the quarter.

- Students must abide by their signed contracts.
- The use of the computer is a privilege, not a right.
